30 Days of Gratitude - Day 11
Today we're grateful for our 4-day trip to Paris for Valentine's Day 2008! It was a wonderful whirlwind of a romantic getaway, and it was another significant moment in our journey to becoming digital nomads.
Up until that time, we had never traveled abroad together without being in the safety and comfort of either a resort or a cruise. We were used to guided tours and set itineraries, so it was stepping outside of our comfort zone for us to go to Paris alone (although Kristy had traveled in Europe during her semester abroad).
We found that we loved it so much more than being on cruises!
It was a delightful change of pace to get to see a city for more than 8 or 10 hours... we felt like we really got to know Paris during our trip, and we grew much more confident in our abilities as travelers.
And of course, Paris itself was magical! We spent Valentine's Day seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, walked through the Tuileries gardens and down Champs Elysees, went up on the Arc de Triomphe, and then rode the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower. It was an incredible day... a Valentine's Day that will be hard to ever top. :)
With our other days in Paris, we went to the Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, and Sacre Coeur churches, admired the Impressionist paintings at Musee d'Orsay, visited Centre Pompidou, and wandered around the cafes of Montmartre. Plus, we went to Versailles, where we toured the gorgeous Hall of Mirrors and fell in love with the palace's magnificent gardens.
It really was an amazing trip... it's crazy that we managed to fit so much into a few short days! Paris was the perfect place for us to grow as travelers, and we are so grateful for our Valentine's Day adventure there!
