30 Days of Gratitude - Tenerife (10/30)

30 Days of Gratitude - Day 10

Today I'm grateful for our 3 weeks in Tenerife in November 2013! Tenerife is an island in Spain's Canary Islands, off the coast of Morocco, and it's one of our favorite places that we've visited.

We stayed in the windy southern town of El Medano for the first half of our trip. Joshua and I took advantage of the gorgeous windy beach by taking a kitesurfing lesson! We built off the basics we'd already learned from lessons in San Diego, and it was so much fun. As we practiced launching ourselves up from a sitting position, the wind was so powerful in the kite that it pulled Joshua (with the instructor holding on to him too!) halfway down the beach!

We spent the second half of our trip on the north side of the island in Puerto de la Cruz and absolutely loved it. We went to the incredible Lago Martianez, which is a water park with 11 different pools, set right next to the ocean. It's the perfect place for a day of swimming and relaxing!

We also went to Tenerife's animal park - Loro Parque - and the girls had such a great time seeing the animals, especially at the dolphin show and birds show. We went with our friends who were also in Tenerife at the time, as well as their daughter - who our girls love, and it was a wonderful afternoon together.

For our last day on the island, we drove up to El Teide - the snow-capped volcano that dominates views on Tenerife. It was a spectacular drive in the beautiful, barren landscape, topped off by seeing the sun set from above the clouds at the end of the day.

Tenerife is such a fantastic place that not even the fact that I had a root canal done there can dampen my memories of the island, and I'm very grateful for that! :)
