The Bo Sang Umbrella Village, only a few miles outside of Chiang Mai, is one of our favorite experiences in Thailand so far!
At the umbrella-making center, you can walk around as the artisans work on each stage of the process to make paper umbrellas by hand. You learn how they make the paper from mulberry bark, see the women shaping the bamboo into umbrella struts by hand, and then watch as the artists paint designs onto the completed umbrellas.
The highlight of our visit was in this last area, where the sweet women who did the hand painting painted flowers and butterflies on the girls' arms and then wrote each of their names in Thai. Then Kristy got a beautiful painting on the back of her phone case as a souvenir. The women did gorgeous work and were so friendly and loved the girls.
Out front is a gift shop where you can buy umbrellas, paper lanterns, fans, and other beautifully made items. There's also a small coffee stand that mostly sells coffee, soda, water, and ice cream. And there are plenty of fun photo ops around!
Our visit to Bo Sang Umbrella Village was a wonderful experience! 💕
